Linos Piano Trio: Beethoven meets the Mendelssohns

Romantic Piano Trios

His first symphony followed emphatically in Beethoven’s footprints, he never stopped talking about the great symphony composer’s Fifth, as a conductor and pianist, he often tackled his scores, and he paid with his own compositions for a statue of his hero in Bonn, the latter’s hometown: Felix Mendelssohn was a Ludwig superfan! Linos Piano Trio made their debut at AMUZ with the timeless beauty of Mendelssohn’s Lieder ohne Worte and Beethoven’s Piano Trio opus 1, no. 2, exciting chamber music that he composed in his twenties. The fact that he had symphonic ambitions was clear even then from the four-part structure, weighty introductions, tonal balance and his treatment of themes and motifs. Megalomanic? Visionary, more like! Fresh from its first recordings of a ‘complete Beethoven’ on historical instruments, Linos Piano Trio has chosen two delightful pianos from the Maene collection for this tribute to the two Romantic heroes.
