Low emission zone

Antwerp aims for better and healthier air and keeps out the most polluting vehicles in the city center. The low emission zone (LEZ) encompasses the entire city center and left bank. The zone is indicated with its own traffic sign.

Am I allowed to enter the LEZ with my car?

Whether or not your vehicle may enter the LEZ depends on the Euro standard. At www.sna.be/lez you will find an online test that will quickly determine whether your vehicle is allowed or not. The check is done with cameras with license plate recognition. If you enter the zone with an unauthorized vehicle, you will be fined.

Mandatory registration for foreign license plates (except Dutch)

Do you want to enter the LEZ with a vehicle with a foreign license plate (non-Belgian and non-Dutch)? Then you have to register once via this tool, even if your vehicle is allowed to enter the LEZ. Registration is free and can be done up to 24 hours after entering the zone. If you have an authorized vehicle with a Dutch plate, you do not need to register. The check for Dutch vehicles is done automatically based on the Dutch vehicle database.

Temporary admission for some vehicles

Some vehicles that do not meet the conditions can apply for a temporary permit for a fee. This concerns, for example, diesel vehicles with Euro standard 3 without a particulate filter or vehicles older than 40 years. You must apply and pay for this authorization in advance via www.sna.be/lez.

LEZ-day pass

Do you have a vehicle that does not meet the conditions and does not qualify for a temporary permit? And do you still want to enter the zone with your vehicle? You can buy an LEZ day pass up to eight times a year. This can be purchased online or is available online or for sale at the parking machines in the city center.

Park & Rides

Do you want to avoid the low emission zone with your vehicle? You can use the Park & Rides that are outside the zone. By public transport you can get to the city center and AMUZ quickly and cheaply.

More information on the low emission zone is available on www.sna.be/lez.
