For its 20th anniversary, VOCES8 is giving its beloved audience what it has wanted for years: a set list of requests! This brilliant eight-strong ensemble is used to crossing many centuries of musical distance. So it slips effortlessly from timeless Renaissance gems like Allegri’s Miserere to Monteverdi’s heartrending love laments from his sixth collection of madrigals and Gibbons’ lively Tudor polyphony, and on to Elgar’s sumptuous Lux Aeterna, the folksy charm of Kate Rusby’s Underneath the Stars, Arvo Pärt’s The Deer’s Cry and work by the voice artist Caroline Shaw. Vocal excellence tops the bill in this smorgasbord of the music that made the ensemble ‘great’, mixed with top works by contemporary composers who have become firm friends over the years.
