The Gesualdo Six – An early English tapestry

“Weavers of rich and plangent aural tapestries, The Gesualdo Six meld style and substance with beguiling sure-footedness.” BBC Music Magazine waxes lyrical on The Gesualdo Six, and we concur wholeheartedly with their enthusiasm: these must surely be England’s best young ensemble singers. Owain Park and his impressive crew treat us to the cream of their heritage at Laus Polyphoniae: early English sacred and secular music, inspired by Gregorian plainchant and canon techniques. Two hundred years flash past in this salvo of voices, from the richly ornamented polyphony of Dunstaple and Frye and the ingenious constructions of Parsons and Byrd to the subtle simplicity of Tallis and Sheppard.

Motets and songs by J. Sheppard, T. Tallis, [T.] Pycard, L. Power, J. Dunstaple, W. Frye, R. Pygott, W. Cornysh, A. Ferrabosco, W. Byrd, R. Parsons & Sheryngham
