Sofie Vanden Eynde: Verdwijntijd

An Autobiographical Concert

It is November 2016. Sofie Vanden Eynde is afraid her heart will stop beating. Her doctor spells out the diagnosis in black and white: burnout. She is an empty shell, a burned-out house. The lute player is silent. For almost a year. Afterwards, her strings speak a different language. The silence has found its place and the ‘verdwijntijd’, the ‘disappearing time’, has lost its disconcerting endlessness. Sofie puts her experiences with burnout into a recital between white noise and clarity, confusion and silence, chaos and harmony. The author Annemarie Peeters offers words for the journey to zero and back, and the actor Katelijne Damen contributes her voice to Sofie’s inner dialogue. The subtle sounds of old masters such as John Dowland, Robert de Visée and Francesco da Milano, and music that tends towards to silence by Vladimir Gorlinksky knit themselves into her account, with the lute offering comfort and support. For all time.
