Lezing Fabrice Fitch, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland

The Missing Voices - Reconstruction of the Missa Scaramella by Jacob Obrecht

Jacob Obrecht’s four-part Missa Scaramella escaped erasure from history by a hair’s breadth. The work has only survived in two partbooks out of a set of four. The musicologist Fabrice Fitch – well-known as the author of Renaissance Polyphony (2020) – and the Alamire Foundation took on the task of reconstructing the missing superius and tenor. As a researcher at the Conservatoire of Scotland, Fitch is an expert in making centuries-old music and hermetic scores intelligible to a present-day audience. In this exclusive exposé, he offers a glimpse behind the scenes of his pioneering research. This lecture (in English) is linked to the evening concert by Binchois Consort.
