Izhar Elias & Consone Quartet

Der Tod und das Mädchen & Boccherini’s Most Famous Guitar Quintet

When consummate musicians come together, grand ideas are born. That is exactly why we find it so fascinating to see creators working together! In recent years, Consone Quartet has engaged in partnerships with various soloists from the Low Countries at AMUZ’s request. After the clarinettist Vlad Weverbergh and flautist Jan De Winne, the Dutch guitarist Izhar Elias is taking his turn. As the first guitarist ever to win the Nederlandse Muziekprijs, this expert in historical guitar repertoires is the ideal match for Boccherini’s Guitar Quintet no. 4: one of the big hits in classical chamber music, with an irresistible Spanish fandango as its finale. The British quartet will also perform Schubert’s masterly String Quartet no. 14, which has carved out a niche for itself in the Early Romantic pantheon with its slow movement, a series of variations on Schubert’s song Der Tod und das Mädchen.
