“Where will I find the strength to carry on?” The biblical cry of despair from Job, struck down by fate, is one that resounds in every age. This programme of music from the entourage of Notre-Dame brings together four female voices exploring the age-old themes of despair, loss, resilience and hope. From the compelling Vir erat to the four-part Deus misertus hominis and from jarring dissonance to sweet harmony, the music follows Job’s journey from darkness into light. The singers link these monumental works with Gregorian plainchant, conducti and tropes, where new texts and melodies combine with the old. A powerful line-up of stark yet comforting music, with heartwarming voices that act like a balsam for the soul.
