BREZZA presents quartets by Jean-Baptiste Quentin le Jeune: an all but forgotten composer who caused a furore between 1718 and 1750 in Paris. Quentin played the violin at the Académie Royale de Musique, as well as penning an impressive oeuvre: 36 violin sonatas, 80 trios and 7 quartets. The latter placed him among the very first French composers to try their hand at the emerging genre. His quartets combine Italian elegance with German architecture and French refinement, but they disappeared from sight for centuries – until now. BREZZA brings historical instruments into play, referring to Baroque treatises to interpret the music as faithfully as possible. This is a dazzling ensemble, attracting rich praise in contests in Barcelona, Gijón en Utrecht, and in the International Young Artists’ Presentation (IYAP) at Laus Polyphoniae 2022. So that’s one more reason to come and experience Quentin’s comeback from first-row seats!
