Surrender and Redemption: the Voice Comforts the Soul

For millions of Christians around the world, Holy Week is the most sacred time of the year. Reflection and self-knowledge foster compassion and servitude as stepping stones to penance and redemption. The vocal ensemble Apollo5 has selected works from five hundred years of repertoire that succeed in linking the intimacy of soul-searching to the openheartedness of musical expression. From Gregorian melodies associated with Bernard of Clairvaux, via polyphony from the Tudor period and the Spanish Golden Age, Bach’s Baroque, modern choir classics by John Tavener and Bobby McFerrin to a piece commissioned from Paul Smith, the British a cappella group are bound to become your immediate favourites.
