Academy of Ancient Music, led by Laurence Cummings, travels from Rome to Paraguay, in the footsteps of the Jesuit Domenico Zipoli (1688-1726), priest, traveler and gifted composer. Zipoli started his career as a student of Alessandro Scarlatti in Rome and ended in Latin America, where he composed in Western European style.
Zipoli’s oeuvre is placed in context, and combined with music by Alessandro Scarlatti, Giovanni da Palestrina and the Bolivian Roque Jacinto de Chavarria. The program abandons the idea of ??the Baroque as a phenomenon that only took place in Western Europe.
