Dyad 1909 & Infra

In 2009, choreographer Wayne McGregor created Dyad 1909 as a tribute to the famous Ballets Russes. Icelandic composer Ólafur Arnalds wrote a score that combines the emotion of strings and piano with the electronic avant-garde. The dance production Infra is another of McGregors creations, commissioned by the Royal Ballet, for which he worked with visual artist Julian Opie and composer Max Richter. Max Richters music for this dance production was praised in the press as “achingly gorgeous [and] uncomplicated.”

Trio Mediaeval

The female singers of Trio Mediaeval reclaim their Scandinavian roots with an enthralling range of Norwegian folk songs. The poignant sounds of these folk songs make you drift into another world. In 2009 the recording of a number of these songs was nominated for a Grammy Award. Small wonder that Trio Mediaeval manages to enthuse an incredibly diverse public with this repertoire.

With their confident voices Anna Maria Friman, Linn Andrea Fuglseth and Berit Opheim will turn this concert into an extraordinary experience. The singers also play different traditional Norwegian instruments to boot, including willow flute, ram’s horn and Hardanger viol, a beautifully decorated viol with melody and resonance strings which enable the instrument to reverberate, as it were. The roots of this Norwegian folk repertoire are age-old, but its universal attraction will not fail to work even in these modern times!

Les Esprits Animaux

The Ottoman delegations visit to France in 1669 marked the beginning of Europes fascination with the Orient. Ottoman, Persian and Arab themes flourished in literature, drama and painting. Novels, ballets and operas introduced Oriental characters with highly imaginative costumes and scenery. Turcaria is a fascinating whirlwind of a voyage to discover the East through the eyes and ears of 17th and 18th century European composers.

Les Esprits Animaux, founded in 2009, attracted attention at the International Young Artists Presentation (IYAP) by AMUZ and Musica in 2011 as a promising ensemble. Their highly dynamic concerts bring the age-old stories behind the music into the 21st century with great vitality, energy, virtuosity and imagination. Let your ears and soul be swept up by this music that was composed not merely to be heard, but to create an experience.

Theater De Spiegel

A mezzo, a harpist, a viola player accompany the cuddly cushion dolls walking on a red thread. The figurines move in their own individual way, at their own pace. Nothing is what it seems as the road offers plenty of unexpected encounters and pleasant surprises. They have to move over the hill and into the mountains. They walk prudently or they run. They hop and dance, they somersault and crawl, they swim in a river or fall into a well. The music was composedby Stefan Wellens, winking at the Renaissance polyphonists, among them des Prez.

The Red Dragon was created in 2003, touring all over Europe for more than 500 performances until 2009. This fabulous production will enjoy a rerun especially for Laus Polyphoniae and for the 50th anniversary of Theater De Spiegel.
