Thirty years of Zefiro Torna: don’t expect a boring look back over the years. It’s time for a party! In Unity in Diversity, the ensemble hurls itself into a stage adventure in which past and present can hardly be distinguished. This has something to say about the path Zefiro Torna has taken: what began as a search for early music has grown into a practice of dialogue. Renaissance and baroque repertoire co-exists with folk music, improvisation and new angles. For this mother-of-pearl jubilee, frontman Jurgen De bruyn and mandolin player Alon Sariel have brought together an exceptional collective. Twelve voices and instruments – from the lute and ney to the gadulka and tar – paint a soundscape that is both intimate and expansive. Everyone brings their own tradition with them; in the encounter, the music begins to tell a story. Differences are not smoothed over but resonate together. From calm intimacy to exuberant group singing, this concert is joyfully rebellious: the ultimate proof that turning thirty is no reason to slow down!
