Wilhelm Friedemann Bach (1710-1784), the eldest son of Johann Sebastian Bach, was one of the first representatives of the Sturm und Drang movement, in which subjectivity in the music became more important. That led to surprising compositions with great contrasts and changes of mood. La Compagnia del Corpo Nero, led by Floris De Rycker, presents an intimate programme for the violin, lute and lautenwerck. The lautenwerck, a cross between a harpsichord and a lute, is an unusual instrument that the Bach family had in their home. The strings, made of gut, produce a gentle sound. “All in all, the achievement of ultimate beauty – including tone colour! – requires the most powerful artistic and technical impulse imaginable. With Floris De Rycker, that is in the best hands.” (Opus Classical).
