Concussio Chordis

Une soirée à Versailles

The Concussio Chordis duo was founded in 2022 and focuses on music for bass string instruments from the late Renaissance to the end of the 18th century.

The programme Une Soirée à Versailles illustrates the battle waged between the viol and cello in the first half of the 18th century to gain supremacy as bass instruments. The two instruments each found an advocate, composer and virtuoso in the figures of Marin Marais and Jean Barrière respectively. Do you have a preference for one instrument or the other? Or might this musical duo still change your mind?
