500 years after Josquin des Prez’ death, Laus Polyphoniae 2021 was devoted to this important Renaissance composer. Josquin worked in France and Italy and wrote both religious and secular music. He was one of the first composers to whom entire music prints were devoted. His secular songs are performed by Marc Mauillon and friends who are also singers. Josquin was an absolute master of counterpoint. Under the influence of the humanists, he combined it with a new attention to text declamation and text expression. Some of the chansons are melancholic while others have a folksy character, but the quality of all of them is sublime!
