Hathor Consort & Nicole Van Opstal

Lecture-concert

From royal bedrooms to stylish salons: nowhere was the viol embraced as intimately as in England. As the opener to this edition of our spring festival, Hathor Consort reveals a treasury of gems from the Tudor and Stuart periods. A consort of six viols of varying sizes weave velvet harmonies in which every voice nevertheless leaves its own trace: a hypnotic web of sound that you can melt into… Along with the fingers and strings that guide you through Byrd’s meditative In Nomines, Lawes’ daring fantasies and Purcell’s graceful court dances, Klara presenter Nicole Van Opstal helps you make sense of this repertoire. The fascinating story of English consort music for the viol, revealed in words and music.
