Is music a refuge or a mirror with no filter? In the history of age-old masterpieces, we read the life stories of musicians who went in search of a place for themselves in the artistic landscape, often far from home. At the heart of this polyphonic meditation on migration, adventure and distance is Orlandus Lassus: the last superhero among the Franco-Flemish polyphonists, who left his hometown of Mons to pursue a career as a choir singer at the most prestigious courts of Europe. In this anniversary concert celebrating ten years of Utopia Ensemble, Lassus’ compositions find a counterpoint in the words of Philipp Blom, played by the actor Jobst Snibbe. What is it like to wander with no final destination? Is utopia always more beautiful than reality? A concert that does not only look back, but also considers questions of today’s world.
