East and west have vibrated like two strings on a single instrument since ancient times. In this fascinating sound extravaganza, they sing their song together: Baroque compositions from 17th century Naples and traditional Armenian music. Repertoires and styles come face to face in a musical orchard, an image inspired by the symbolism of fruit and gardens that exists in both cultures. Lux Beata offers shade and sweetness with folk melodies from Armenia arranged for a consort of viols, as well as Italian music by composers including Giovanni Felice Sances, Giovanni Maria Trabaci and Giovanni de Macque. The sweet melancholy of the duduk – an Armenian double-reed flute made of apricot wood – bathes the programme in a salubrious twilight.
