The ensemble consisting of the two violists Irene Klein and Jane Achtman highlights the rich colour palette of the lyra viol. The lyra viol was a late 16th century string instrument used to accompany dramatic laments and recitatives. Its fingerboard makes it easy to play chords: two instruments can sound like an entire consort. Expect mournful pavanes, cheerful dances and The Wild Goose Chase. “Everything this duo touches starts to fizz and sparkle”, De Volkskrant writes.
