La Grande Chapelle

La Capilla Flamenca

The Capilla Flamenca or Flemish Chapel was the court chapel of the Spanish branch of the House of Habsburg, founded in 1515 by Emperor Charles V. La Grande Chapelle will explore the period between 1565 and 1585, focusing on three Franco-Flemish polyphonists in the service of King Philip II: George de la Hèle (1547-1586), Geert van Turnhout (c. 1520-1580) and Jean de Bonmarché (c. 1520-1570). Albert Recasens’ vocal and instrumental ensemble is one of the great specialists in the polychoral Spanish and colonial music of the Renaissance and Baroque. This group of experienced artists from all over Europe – with its characteristic timbre of rich, sonorous textures – has previously given very successful performances at AMUZ.
