Two countertenors, Andreas Scholl and Maarten Engeltjes, sing arias and duets by their 17th century countertenor predecessors, better known as leading composers in
the English Baroque: Henry Purcell and John Blow. Engeltjes was taught by the world-famous countertenor Scholl, just as the young Purcell was taught by Blow. Andreas Scholl, with his much-admired, clear voice and exceptionally high range, performs the great works of the Baroque and Renaissance like no other singer. This exciting collaboration, in combination with Engeltjes’ ensemble prjct.amsterdam, is bound to enchant you.
J. Blow: Ah heav’n what is’t I hear | H. Purcell: Hark! How the songsters of the grove | In vain the am’rous flute | If music be the food of love | Sound the trumpet | Music for a while | Strike the viol | Sweeter than roses | What power art thou (Cold song) | When I am laid in earth | An evening hymn | O dive custos auriacae Domus | Fairest isle
